THE MARIOLA COLLECTION
100% MERINO WOOL
STOCK SERVICE
This luxurious wool fibre was developed when invaders from the Marinid dynasty of North Africa which stretched from modern-day Morocco to Tunisia introduced sheep into Southern Spain in the 13th century. Once these invaders had been repelled the stock they left behind were adopted by the Spanish nobility and these great houses of Spain cross-bred these animals with stronger English sheep to create what is now called Merino.
During the next 4 centuries, the Spanish nobility and church were very protective of these fine animals, until the 17th century when once again their relationship with England took this well-bred and noble livestock to the new worlds of South America, South Africa and Australasia where they proliferate today. Over recent years Shepley Yarns of England has partnered with the Pascual family of the Sierra Mariola region of Spain to create this fine yarn using the best Merino fibres for your comfort and durability.
Shepley Yarns Mariola Merino is sourced from regions of the world where the process of mulesing is not carried out.
